I rarely
need an excuse to visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; the exhibitions alone are enough to get me in the door.
But if you want a little something extra, head out on the first Friday of the month.
From 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. each month, you can check out a free First Fridays performing arts event at VMFA. On July 6, 2012, First Fridays features Argentine Hit & Run Tango. There’ll be tango lessons from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. & then you can practice your new moves from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Bonus: Since VMFA’s Friday Art + Wine events also take place on Friday evenings, you can take advantage of other perks. The galleries stay open until 9:00 p.m., drinks are half price at Best Cafe, and there are free half-hour gallery tours at 7:00 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. On July 6, you can take the Puttin’ on the Ritz tour.
If you can’t snag a spot on Sheppard St, parking in the garage is free for members & $5/day for nonmembers. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is located at 200 N. Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220-4007 804.340.1400
