Darn, this deal has expired.
Last month, I went to the Science Museum of Virginia to see the Body Worlds & the Brain exhibition, which features 12 human bodies preserved through Plastination.
The bodies don’t look like corpses in a funeral home; rather, they’re stripped down to expose the inner workings of the human body, much like what you see in the picture, and then posed to emphasize certain parts of the body, such as the muscles used during athletic events.
In addition to the full bodies, you’ll get a close-up look at the brain, lungs, heart & other parts, including both the healthy version & those affected by disease.
FYI–Since they’re a natural part of the human body, Body Worlds’ full-body plastinates have exposed genitals. The exhibition is recommended for children age 8 & up.
I found the exhibition fascinating. My girls, almost 8 & 11, weren’t quite sure what to make of it at first, but their ‘that’s creepy’ statements switched to ‘that’s cool, look at this’ as we worked our way through the exhibition.
Want to go? Body World & the Brain is not included with the price of museum admission. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for children ages 4-12, and $7.50 for members.
But you can save a bit if you buy a combo ticket. Regular museum admission is $11 for adults. A combo ticket for Body Worlds & the galleries is $20, and a combo ticket for Body Worlds, the galleries, & IMAX is $25.
Want a little something extra? From 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012, check out Brain Waves at the Science Museum of Virginia. There’ll be hands-on activities to learn more about the brain, and you can bring your bike helmets & car seats for a professional fittings & curbside adjustments by the Virginia Department of Health. Bonus: The first 100 guests receive a bike helmet courtesy of the Virginia Department of Health. Brain Waves is free with museum admission. While you’re there, members only can visit the Brain Food station to make-your-own trail mix & learn how the snack boosts brain power.
