Looking for a few free activities for the kids?

During August 2012, the Virginia Historical Society is offering free August Afternoons events. From 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. daily, you can stop by the Marcus and Carole M. Weinstein Education Classroom to participate in educator-led programs, craft activities, and group readings of historically-themed books. And you’ll get free museum admission, too, while you’re there.

We went to the Virginia Historical Society’s free Family Day last month, and not only did my girls have fun making paper dolls & shopping the used book sale, but the exhibitions were really interesting. I highly recommend spending time checking out The Story of Virginia, which covers 16,000 years of history. The exhibition features numerous artifacts, including a streetcar, Pocahontas’ button, decorative arts (which remind me of my grandmother’s house), a slavery-era whipping post, & weaving equipment, to name a few.

The Virginia Historical Society is located at 428 North Boulevard, Richmond. 804-358-4901
