On Saturday, August 4, 2012, Gone to the Birds 2011 will take place in Shockoe Bottom. From 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., you can watch as up to 10,000 Purple Martins swarm into the Bradford Pear trees next to the 17th Street Farmers’ Market.
While you’re there, you can learn more about Purple Martins, bring home a gourd to house a Purple Martin in your yard, & indulge with some purple gelato and purple martinis.
FYI–I had trouble accessing GoneToTheBirds.org, but I was able to pull Google’s cached copy to get most the details. Hopefully, the site will be back up soon.
