October’s tale an excellent pick for a fun ‘get in the mood for Halloween’ event:

On Thursday, October 25, 2012, The Poe Museum will host its October Unhappy Hour: The Masque of the Red Death From 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., there’ll be live music by Little Black Rain Clouds and Robert Andrew Scott, paranormal investigation demos by Spirited History, psychic readings by Miss Emma, a costume contest, a new exhibit of art work inspired by the story, & more.

The family-friendly event is free (though there is a suggested donation of $5), and there’ll be free food plus a cash bar for those inclined.

Unhappy Hour takes place rain or shine; the garden will be tented to keep you dry. If you can’t find a parking spot, you can park free in the bus parking lot at the Virginia Holocaust Museum for the duration of the event. The lot’s entrance is on the corner of 21st & Dock St.
