The City of Richmond Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities presents a night of Salsa, Bomba, and Plena at the Dogwood Dell. Kadencia will bring its Puerto Rican sound to the Dell’s Main Stage on Saturday, July 6, 2019. The show is FREE and open to all ages. The singing, dancing, and fun starts at 8pm. Bring a chair, a blanket, snacks, beverages, friends, family, and your dancing shoes.
Kadencia is an orchestra dedicated to conserving and promoting Afro-Puerto Rican music. The band uses Bomba, Plena, and Salsa to promulgate Puerto Rican culture, educate audiences on the Caribbean island’s native musical expressions, and make your body move in fun and rhythmic ways.
Bomba, Plena, and Salsa are rhythms that are native to Puerto Rico that were forged out of a necessity to communicate through song everything that is good and bad about their history, culture, and daily life. Hear the music of the mountains or “barrios”, to express social and economic injustice. Bomba and Plena are also conduits of joy that make people sing and dance.
