Happy New Year! It’s almost here. How will you celebrate? Here are a few RVA New Year’s Celebrations to consider. Visit websites or call to confirm events as they may change after posting.
Noon Year’s Eve at the Science Museum. 10am-1pm. $14.50 adult admission; $13.50 youth and seniors; members FREE. Noon Year’s Eve included with Museum admission. Ring in the Noon Year with the Museum! Count down to noon to see a dramatic and quirky version of the traditional ball drop! Create your own noisemaker, construct a building from marshmallows, add your wish to our Noon Year Wish Chain and snap a fun photo in the Richmond Family Magazine photo booth! Kick off the New Year right with science on your side – watch 2,018 bouncy balls, paper streamers and confetti bring our Rotunda to life for a special ball drop and toast with apple juice to celebrate the New Year.
Noon New Year’s Eve at MyBirth. Come celebrate the New Year at MyBirth! We’re hosting this fun, free, family and kid oriented event on New Year’s Eve from 11am-2pm. Join us for music, food trucks, hot cocoa, games, crafts, and a 12:00pm balloon drop and dance party! We’ll be packing a lot of fun into this three hour party, check back regularly for details, and be sure to share with friends!
New Year’s Eve Bash at CMoR. 10am – 2pm on December 31 FREE with Museum admission. Adults and children $9 admission; children under 1 are free; seniors are $8, CMoR members free. Ring in the New Year CMoR-Style with a Countdown to Noon, Seymour Parade, Special Activities and More, at all 4 CMoR Locations! The Central location will even feature a Confetti Room and an Education Extravaganza! Free with museum admission. Call for more information:

New Year’s Eve Extravaganza 2K18. 7:30pm-1am on December 31st at Chester Skateland. $12 admission at door or $8 for pre-order at DJ Booth. Rock and Roll your way into the new year at Chester Skateland! Admission includes skate rentals, hats, horns, a balloon drop, plus tons of games and prizes. This event is ideal for teens looking for a fun, safe New Year’s Eve celebration or for families wanting to spend the evening together.
New Year’s Eve Family Frolic at Lewis Ginter. 2-5pm on December 31st is $13 admission adults; $8 children; $11 seniors; children under 3 are free. Enjoy fun family activities all afternoon with the New Year’s Eve Family Frolic. Live music with the Ululating Mummies, a parade and more. There is a fee so check here for details. Activities include:
- Photo opportunities with the Garden Keeper — bring your cameras!
- Make your own New Year’s party hat
- Write your wish for 2018 and add it to our “wishing chain”
- Be a part of the annual Garden tradition: “Rolling in the New Year” by rolling down the hill to the Cochrane Rose Garden.
Those who attend the New Year’s Eve Family Frolic and who are already in the Garden can stay to attend Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights (5 -10 p.m.)
Byrd Theatre on December 30th. 10am. Family Classics: An American Tail on Saturday, December 30th. Regular shows tickets are $4 This includes Family Classics (Bear in mind that they do not show previews, so arrive early!) Everyone, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
The Rink at West Broad Village Ice Skating. 11am-8pm. Ice skating for the whole family – enjoy food and drinks from nearby restaurants.
Maymont Mansion Holiday. 12noon – 5pm at Maymont on December 31st for just a $5 donation. Celebrate the season at Maymont and revel in Victorian holiday splendor! Major and Mrs. Dooley’s spectacularly decorated Gilded Age home brings the wonders and festivities of Christmas past to life. Beautiful trimmings on the 12-foot Christmas tree, the opulent dining room set for a feast, evergreen decorations and lavish gifts welcome the season in grand Victorian style. In the Belowstairs area, preparations are underway to make the Dooleys’ first Christmas in their new home special for their family and friends – and to put everyone in the holiday spirit! Guided tours (upstairs only) available every half-hour; last tour begins at 4:30pm.
January 1
Maymont Mansion. Maymont Mansion, the Nature & Visitor Center and other indoor exhibits will be closed Monday, January 1. Grounds will be OPEN regular hours from 10am-5pm.
First Day Hikes. If you hike, bike or ride a horse, head on out to one of our Virginia State Parks on January 1 for a First Day Hike. All 36 of our Virginia State Parks are offering hiking opportunities.
