great for a weekday outing (you’re likely to have the whole place to yourself). You can play on the playset, explore the grounds, and traipse through the pumpkin patch. For more fun activities, like a barrel train ride, you can purchase a fun pass.

 

They do such a good job of serving the families in Chesterfield here! On fall weekends, they open for crafts, games and a spooky (but not *too* spooky) bus!

 

Another free pumpkin patch! Plus, this one has a hayride, hay mountain, and there are picnic tables (so bring snacks if you want it to stay free – otherwise, buy some delicious custard from Jimer’s – parked directly in front of the picnic tables)

 

My kids LOVE playing here. They typically have an inflatable up (you’ll see it from the road), and there are goats to visit, too! Lots of pumpkins, and a little house to play in.

 

Save this one for the grandparent outing. I love the size of this one and that there isn’t much walking, so it’s great for grandparents with mobility issues as well as little ones. There are balls, large blocks, and photo ops.

 

Choose any park and jazz up your regular hike/walk with this really simple activity. Bring crayons (take paper off first), tape and white paper. Not specifically for fall, but this time of year is when we always seem to do this.

 

This is where I took my toddler so there wouldn’t be too much overstimulation. It’s a pumpkin patch, play set and a couple ride-on toys. If your goal is to pick out a pumpkin with your young child, I recommend this one.

 

Fall hikes are the BEST. Some of our favorites: Dutch Gap, Leakes Mill, and John J Radcliffe (None of these have parking fees.)

 

There is no admission fee to take the hayride to the patch. BUT, there is an option to purchase a pass to be able to play in the HUGE play area, and food is sold here, too. (Hard to leave here without spending money, but it is really fun.)
