School choruses, carolers, Handel’s Messiah, the Jazz Nativity and a cappella are some of the holiday-themed concerts in the Richmond area this December. •Dec 3 – Dec. 27 – Music at Midday at the Jefferson Hotel , 101 W. Franklin St. Richmond, VA
•Dec. 6: Handel’s Messiah – Dominion Energy Center, 600 E. Grace St. Richmond, The Richmond Symphony and Richmond Symphony Chorus proudly present Handel’s Messiah, a classical fixture of the Holiday season. A time-honored and well-loved tradition, the Messiah has moved Richmonders for generations. Conducted by Chia-Hsuan Lin, the concert will take place on December 8 at 7:30pm at the Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
•Dec 6, 7 & 8 Jazz Nativity. Gayton Baptist Church presents its annual Jazz Nativity. Come enjoy jazz music inspired by the Christmas season.
Dec. 7 – Richmond Boys Choir at the Richmond Public Library – 2pm
•Dec. 7 & 8, 2019 – “Let it Snow!” 8 p.m., Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage, 600 E. Grace St., Richmond. Join the Richmond Symphony and the Richmond Symphony Chorus for this annual family tradition.
•Dec. 8 – Handel’s Messiah Community Sing In – Bon Air Presbyterian Church – Special performance of Handel’s Messiah with professional soloists and orchestra where the audience also participates. Those who want to be part of the chorus are asked to come on Saturday, December 7, for rehearsal at 1:00 p.m. but it’s not required. Event is free, but donations are accepted.
Dec. 8 – Richmond Choral Society Christmas Concert – Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 N Parham Rd, Henrico, Virginia 23229 – 4:00 pm

•Dec. 8 – Christmas with American Composers – Christmas Music – River Road Church Baptist, 8000 River Road, Richmond, VA – 7:30pm
•Dec. 8 – University of Richmond Choral Lessons & Carols – Modlin Center for the Arts, 453 Westhampton Way, Richmond, Virginia 23173 – at 5 pm and 8 pm
•Dec. 13 – The Church Hill Candlelight Walk and Caroling. – Church Hill Holiday. The FREE candlelight walk hosted by The Church Hill Association and the Union Hill Association begins at Jefferson Park (Union Hill) at 7:15 pm with bagpipes, vespers and drummers leading the way through the Union Hill and Church Hill neighborhoods to historic Libby Hill. Bring your candles and lanterns, continue to St. John’s Church where, following Vespers (starts at 7 pm), the congregation will join in the walk from Patrick Henry Park (approximately at 7:35 pm). Finally, all will gather for caroling and a visit from Santa on historic Libby Hill with the 180-degree view overlooking the James River and our city lit up for the holidays!
•Dec. 17: Street Corner Symphony Holiday Show at The Tin Pan RVA, 8982 Quioccasin Rd. Richmond, VA – contemporary a cappella group based out of Nashville, Tennessee
•Dec. 18 – Vienna Boys Choir: Christmas in Vienna– Richmond – Richmond First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23220
•Dec. 20 – 7:30pm – A Celebration of Light: Music for the Winter Solstice – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave. Richmond, A one-hour, candlelit concert featuring the Sanctuary and the Virginia Girls Choir will perform works by Peter Hallock, Josef Rheinberger, Henry Purcell, Eric Whitacre, Sven-David Sandström, Herbert Howells, Herbert Sumsion, and others. Conducted by Brent te Velde. On the longest night of the year, listen to music about light, Advent, Mary, and Jesus as the Light of the World. (confirmed)
•Dec. 21 – 5pm – Vintage Carolers – Downtown Ashland, Virginia
•Dec. 23 – 12pm – Offering Christmas Concert at The Jefferson Hotel, Richmond
