This weekend, Hanover County is celebrating its most famous export: The Hanover Tomato!
The annual Hanover Tomato Festival, held on the second weekend in July, will be in full regalia at Pole Green Park on Friday, July 10th, from 5PM – 9PM and Saturday, July 11th, from 9AM – 1PM. The festival is both family and dog-friendly!
AND IT’S FREE!
The free outdoor family and pet-friendly festival is held every year in Mechanicsville’s Pole Green Park, 8996 Pole Green Park Lane. In addition to select agriculture, handcraft and artisan vendors there will be a variety of tomato-themed children’s and family activities and lots of Hanover Tomatoes for purchase and for tasting.

Hanover Tomato Festival History
According to its website, in 1978, the festival was conceived by members of the Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department were looking for a way to raise money for the Department. It was decided to hold a small local festival at the old fire station.
The early crowds were small, but the festival soon outgrew the station site. When the new park at Pole Green opened it was decided to move the festival there.
In 2018 the festival held its 40th celebration, which was also the final year of partnership by the Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department. The tradition of the Hanover Tomato Festival continues with the support of Hanover County.
